Week Five Term Two!
This week we have done a lot of interesting things in tech arts and in school. First i will start with tech arts. We did science and had our last lesson on Tuesday and we made sherbet and bath fizz and we also had a test and I was finished first and we packed up and I got more free soap and a two dollar gift voucher.
In school we were doing memoirs which are past experiences. This is my memoir.
In school we were doing memoirs which are past experiences. This is my memoir.
As I arrive I saw my friends getting ready to suit up into their extra clothes for more layers for protection, there were large green nets for the perimeter. I heard my sister and mum say “have fun” and “good luck,” then left me there, but those words quickly faded away, I was only there with my allies. We get handed out clothes, helmets and weapons; we quickly got into the clothes and put on our helmets, eager but wondered how much it will hurt if we got shot. As we stepped onto the battlefield the air, and everyone else around me were ecstatic. I slowly walked towards my base. We needed a plan.
Before the horn went off, Kieran, Matthew and I, made a plan for the capture the flag battle and we made a plan. It was for two people to stay in the base while the smallest and quickest, which was me, to run towards the flag while the enemy are distracted by my team so I can sneak behind them grab it and then get a point for our team, it worked the first time but the enemy was quicker the next. We soon stayed in our base or near the flag after our foes got more points. We then started getting back at them. It was starting to become neck and neck.
The end was coming closer, but so was the taste of defeat. Toby snuck into our base and he started hail firing at me and I got shot three times basically in the same spot, I stood up and went to go to the base but I kept on getting shot so I kept on shouting “I’m already hit!” over and over. We gave it all we got and eventually the air horn went off and we were all exhausted but waiting for the result. The end score was 8-6 to them. Although we lost, we clapped and said good job to everyone, then we left and went home.

Term 2 Tech Arts: Science
During science we learned about the periodic table and we recently made slime, which was made with 100 ml of wood glue 100 ml of cold water and a mixture of hot water and borax, which you should never ever eat, which is kind of like a bonding agent. If you do have the ability to get borax and you make this remember to never eat it, don't let animals touch it or eat it because they can't wash their paws and wash your hands thoroughly even if you aren't eating and keep it out of children's reach younger than 7 years old. We have also learned about molecules and particles, molecules basically make up this earth! We have made candles for ANZAC day, distilled salt water into fresh water and have just finished making soap from soap base; we added food colouring and fragrance.

Tech arts Wk 6
This term the year 8's have been doing sewing, so far in our tech arts I have made: A sweatshirt, a beanie and I have nearly finished a pair of slippers. For our items of clothes we are using knitted polyester. during the manufacturing of the polyester they are made from plastic soft drink bottles that are compressed then melted and that is how polyester is made. We have been doing sewing from the start of the year until the end of the term.
Shibuya Makuhari Students Vist.
On Thursday one o'clock students from Makuhari school in Japan came to New Zealand and came to Te Awamutu Intermediate school for a visit to our country for two week. My family has been lucky enough to host a student, his name is Masahiyo, he is fifteen and lives in Japan, Tokyo. He is really nice, funny and very polite, another Japanese student in our class is called Saki, she is being hosted by Mya. The last Japanese student is Okunaka and is being hosted by Rowan. They have been orientated around the school just today and when they got here they were quite tired from a ten hour trip from Japan to here.

Portrait Poem
I am intelligent and witty,
I wonder if humankind will bring extinction upon themselves,
I hear water gushing and rushing down the river,
I see waterfalls surrounding me, enveloping me,
I want more jobs, decreasing poverty,
I am intelligent and witty.
I pretend to be a Jaguar finding and stalking my prey,
I feel the water trickling down my arms,
I touch the thorn drawing blood like a syringe from a patient,
I worry for the animals that live in forests,
I cry for my late great grandma,
I am Intelligent and witty.
I understand food as a need for life on this green and blue planet,
I say that we are and were made equal,
I dream about my future, where I will go and where I will stay,
I try and will be the best person I can be,
I hope for my future as an adult to go up, not down,
I am intelligent and witty

Term One, Week Five Maths Learning Reflections
The past couple of weeks have been loaded with maths more maths and tests. For maths we have been going over: Prime numbers, H.C.F (Highest Common Factor), L.C.M (Lowest Common Multiples), Multiples and Factors all this week, like I said it's packed. Here is one of my learning reflections for maths, but before I start on the learning reflection I will tell you what they are first. A learning reflection is a piece of writing which tells the teacher what you have learned so you don't cheat your answers. Here is my learning reflection for finding the total number of tens and hundreds ect.
To find the total number of tens and hundreds ect. is quite easy once you understand, here is an example.
Find the total number of tens
134
The answer is 13.4
you get this by thinking "well ten ten's equals 100 but you take one zero away like you are doing division and you are dividing it by ten so now it's ten. So if you divide 30 by ten you get 3 and if you divide 4 by ten you get .4 so now you have the answer, 13.4.

The Old Shed
L.I. To use the model of “The Old Alley” to write descriptively about a place.
The Old Shed
Rusty tools hang from the wall,
The holes from the roof allows rain to seep in,
Rats scatter through holes in the wall like doors when you come in,
Mouldy planks bend out off the wall.
Poison ivy seeps in through the shattered windows strangling floorboards like constrictors,
Must fills the air like smoke filling a fireplace,
The floor creaks as you take one step in,
Giant glass shards fill the floor,
Slithers of moonlight seep into the dark room,
The moonlight only shows holes in sheets covered in grime.
The room is now a home for rats,
Living in a dark world,
Forever and ever,
They had no home,
Nowhere to stay,
But now they do.

How Did The Giraffe Get A Long Neck?
How Did The Giraffe Get A Long Neck?
L.I to write a pourquoi story explaining how/why something is
A long, long time ago there was a very large jungle, and it was so big that it seemed like it went on forever. The only inhabitants were giraffes, cheetahs and a lonely genie who granted two wishes. The giraffes kept on getting recognised as tall cheetahs over and over. They had had enough so they left to find more polite company but found more giraffes. They were recognised as tall cheetahs as well so they thought of a way to be recognised as a giraffe. They had a sign on them that said i'm a giraffe not a cheetah, but then that made it even worse than it was before because they were getting laughed at by the cheetahs because of the sign and every time they were seen they got laughed at so then they took it off and left the cheetahs forever and ever
They traveled far away from the cheetahs but while they were eating, one of the giraffes got their head stuck in a tree, but removed it before it hurt him too much. They continued their long journey. They accidentally found more cheetahs and got recognised as a cheetah again. They ignored them and continued but it was soon moonlight so they settled down and slept through the dark, quiet night. Early in the morning they set off again, but the baby giraffe was too tired to continue so they went to the cheetahs but they were gone. POOF, a genie appeared in front of them granting them two wishes each. The baby asked to never be tired again and everyone wished the same and they all asked for unlimited food in trees but then the genie disappeared into the wind before they wanted to change their wish. They had something to eat but a giraffe got its head stuck. He tried to pull it out, but instead his neck got longer, and longer until it was very long, so then they were never mistaken as a cheetah again.
Book Review
Title: Maximum Security
Author: Robert Muchamore
Genre: Thriller
Length: 286 pages
Muchamore’s novel “Maximum Security” is the third book in the CHERUB (Charles Henderson's Espionage Research Unit B) series. It has a lot of tension throughout the book as James and Dave (agents of CHERUB) bust out an inmate, Curtis, from a high security prison for a mission to discover the location of criminal mastermind, Jane Oxford.
My favourite part of the book was when James and Curtis were on the run from the prison guards of Arizona Max. They then drove away in the Ute they had stolen, not without getting pulled over by the police, but they got away because Lauren, James’ sister, threw stun grenades at them. The reason I liked this part most is because it was very exciting and thrilling. “A white light and a deafening blast flashed as a stun grenade exploded in
the wheel hub of the front police car, ripping apart the tyre.” This part had very good description, Muchamore made it a very believable scene.
Two characters I really enjoyed in this book were James and Curtis. James has a lot of courage in him because he has gone through a lot to become a CHERUB agent and this is one of his most daring missions so far. He has really stepped up from what he was originally, I think this because he never used to be very active, but since his recruitment and basic training, he had really gone from a lazy no-hoper, to a fit secret agent. Curtis had had a troubled childhood, the book didn’t say what his problem was but I think it was something along the lines of depression. His condition wasn’t good before he went to Arizona Max and the reason why he went to prison is because he murdered three people. The reason why I like this character is because he is unpredictable and I like the way he is presented.
There was a lot of courage shown throughout this book. One example of courage would be when Paula (a trailer owner) helped James and Curtis (the two escapees) to get to LA, but if something went wrong James and Curtis would go to prison and Paula would be charged for harbouring fugitives. Lauren showed courage by helping James and Curtis when they nearly got caught by throwing stun grenades, then gave a policewoman and a policeman that were about to capture them and she gave them 90,000 volts through a stun gun, then running into the 4x4 and driving off without getting caught.
The thing I like about this whole book is that it is the kind of genre that I would like to read and had a lot of excitement and thrilling moments during the story. This book makes me want to read more of the series and furthermore read it again. This is a good book and after I read it I thought it was the best book I have ever read, I would recommend ages of 11+.

Hello I'm Cerwyn check out my posts
Week 1: On my first week at my new school I learned a bit more about maths than I knew before from Mrs Crowe my new teacher. I learned that I have been challenged because it is much harder.
Week 4: I have started to do my weta report in my marbig folder. I have learned heaps more about wetas than I did before like that cave wetas jump around like crickets instead of walking around and also wetas are cousins of the cricket family.
Week 5: We did explanation writing about what effects the world like global warming, felling trees and pollution and other topics like that, I did a explanation about global warming.
Week 6: On Friday we had swimming sports and it was really fun from my perspective, I was in house Puniu and four year seven girls and boys for the relay separately so four boys in a team and four girls in a team and four year eight boy in a team and four year eight girls in a team and we won two but we lost the others, I came first in one length of freestyle and backstroke but I lost the others but congratulated the others ☺.
